US news channels boycott Trump coverage after he bans CNN, ‘Politico’

News organisations in the United States on Monday halted video coverage of President Donald Trump after he banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, reported The Washington Post.

The three news outlets also filed a lawsuit in the federal district court in Washington, alleging that Trump’s ban violates the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which protects freedom of the press, reported AFP.
A US district judge will hear the complaint on Wednesday.
After the broadcasters’ boycott, the White House on Monday evening launched its own streaming feed online, branding it “Trump TV”.
The channel has said that it will show “top past moments, announcements, and the latest and greatest from the administration all in one place”, reported The Guardian.
In a social media post on Saturday, Trump described CNN, MS NOW and Politico as “fake news” and said he was “proud to announce” the ban on them.
“Media outlets should not be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies when they are covering the president of the United States, the Trump administration, or the United States of America,” he said.
The US president added that “other fake news media outlets” will face similar action.
Later that day, journalists from the three outlets were denied access to the White House grounds and had their passes confiscated, reported AFP.
