The Atlanta Braves have had an up-and-down year with Ronald Acuña Jr., as he has struggled with injuries this season. However, over the past month, he has been on a tear.

Acuña, when healthy, is one of the best players in the entire league. At the beginning of September, he was on an absolute tear.

“Ronald Acuña Jr. is heating up in September, and it's exactly what the Atlanta Braves have been waiting for. Acuña has missed 53 games this season due to injury, and outside of a solid May in which he hit .286 with five home runs, his offensive season has been underwhelming. That's what makes the calendar flipping to September such a welcome sight. Through the first four games of the month, Acuña is 8-for-18 with two homers, five RBIs and four runs scored,” SI’s Roman Janeiro wrote.

The only concerning thing is that, as it stands, Atlanta is questioning whether or not to extend him. Acuña is open to it, but the Braves are still figuring it out.

“Now Acuña, I'm sure, would welcome talks for an extension because he'd had so many injuries, but I just don't see it happening. I do see him, in two years, becoming a free agent,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said.

The Braves are gearing up for the playoffs, and Acuña is going to be a huge factor. However, disaster struck on Tuesday night when the MVP fouled a ball off his leg and had to exit the game.

“Ronald Acuña Jr. has been taken out of the game after he took a swing and the ball ricocheted off his leg. We'll have more updates when they become available,” The Athletic’s Jesus Cano posted.

As of now, there is no update on the severity of his injury. It did look pretty painful, but with the playoffs starting in a week, Acuña may not see the field much even if he is able to play.

The 28-year-old is going to be a big part of the Braves team that wants to make it back to another World Series. Acuña potentially not playing in the playoffs gives Atlanta a nightmare it does not want to face. This could be a worst-case scenario at the absolute worst time.
