‘Devastated’ — Jeff Saturday, Jason McCourty Address Jaxson Dart Potentially Missing Season

The New York Giants’ 2026 season hit an unexpected difficulty on Monday night after Jaxson Dart contracted a serious knee injury. The Los Angeles Rams linebackers, Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart, hit Dart as he attempted a throw from the pocket.

Although Dart limped off the field and reportedly tried to return, the Giants ruled him out with a knee injury. While reporters initially predicted a few weeks’ absence, fresh reports from the Giants’ camp show Dart might miss the rest of the season to the dismay of many observers, including a duo of ESPN analysts.

There are expectations that Cam Skattebo, with whom Dart emerged further last season, might have an unexpectedly tough month if Dart remains injured for long. Skattebo and Dart connected last season to produce decent numbers for the side. Their partnership stirred widespread anticipation from the community about their potential future contributions to the franchise.
Many observers expected 2026 to be a breakout year for both stars. But an unfortunate Week 2 injury to Dart may have short-circuited his season while altering Skattebo’s season.
The signs already rear their heads. Experts assess the statistical difference between Skattebo’s 2026 numbers with and without Dart. With Dart, he registered 47 snaps and 4.4 yards per carry. Without Dart, he recorded 27 snaps and 2.9 yards per carry, per a SumerSports report.
The four weeks both players spent as rookies saw Skattebo register 78 carries and 308 yards for three rushing TDs. The figures show that Dart and Skattebo are a great match on the field due to their matching intensities. Dart shines as a rushing threat and dual-threat passer, causing defenses to help off Skattebo or give him more room to get open on runs.
Considering that backup QB Winston is almost entirely reliant on his passing ability, Skattebo might find it harder to break out as the sole focus of opposing defenses. Dart’s absence may also impair 23-year-old WR Malik Nabers’ production. Among other things, his 0-for-3 second half in their loss to the Rams with Winston at QB might have made that obvious.
Initial reports claimed Dart would be out with a sprained MCL after X-rays. An MCL typically sidelines players for a few weeks, if not months at most. Additional testing suggests otherwise, stirring widespread concerns that Dart will be out for the entire season.
Should Dart miss the rest of the season, Skattebo may be in for a significantly tough year unless the Giants sign an interim QB1 option that’s better than the underwhelming Winston.
