After years of complicated injuries, there was a need to give Ter Stegen regular minutes to gain his confidence back and rebuild his market value. That objective is currently on the right track.
Barcelona know there is a world-class player in Ter Stegen and are hoping for massive salary savings and possibly even a fee for his transfer next summer – once his valuation is back where it deserves to be.
Michel’s contribution, in that sense, has been massive as he has trusted the player at both Girona and Ajax and has established the player as his de facto starting option.

The former Liverpool coach has full faith in the ex-Barcelona captain, and all eyes will be on Ter Stegen’s performances in the upcoming international break.
From Barcelona’s perspective, there is a lot of anticipation towards the upcoming hiatus and hope that the player can continue his good form with the national team.
After all, his performing well as Germany’s number one option will only further raise his valuation.
Regardless of his performances, however, what is clear is that there is no road back to Catalonia for the player. His cycle as a Barcelona player has ended, and he will have to move on in the summer.
