Elizabeth Holmes set to move to halfway house in 2027

Elizabeth Holmes is getting closer to the end of her prison sentence — and somehow, the Theranos saga is still finding new ways to stay in the spotlight.
The disgraced Theranos founder has been approved to move to a halfway house next year. Holmes is scheduled to be placed at the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas, on Aug. 23, 2027, ABC News reports, citing an update from the Department of Justice’s Victim Notification System.
Holmes, 42, is currently serving time at Federal Prison Camp Bryan, a minimum-security federal prison camp in southern Texas, according to CNN .
She was convicted in 2022 on four counts related to defrauding investors and sentenced to 11 years and three months in federal prison. Her sentence was later reduced by two years for good behaviour .
Fall from grace
Holmes founded Theranos as a college student and turned it into a company once valued at $9 billion. In 2014, Forbes named her the youngest self-made female billionaire in the U.S., after she claimed her company had developed technology capable of accurately testing for hundreds of diseases using just a few drops of blood.
Investors bought in. Theranos raised $945 million, while its board included prominent political figures and the company landed major retail partners, according to CNN .
When everything came crashing down
In 2015, reports revealed that Theranos’ technology did not work as Holmes had claimed, according to The Washington Post . Investigators later found that Holmes had misled investors about the technology and that patients had received inaccurate test results.
The damage was extensive. Theranos eventually voided or corrected more than 10% of the 7.8 million test results it sold in Arizona alone, Fortune reported in 2022 .
The scandal has since become pop-culture material, including Hulu’s The Dropout , starring Amanda Seyfried .
Now, Holmes is at the centre of another project: The forthcoming documentary You Can See Everything , which hits theatres Oct. 16, according to CBC .
Canadian filmmaker Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim filmed the documentary during the 34 days before Holmes went to prison in 2023, CBC reports. The film was kept largely under wraps and received enthusiastic early reactions after a surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 6, according to PEOPLE .

Eyebrow-raising trailer
In the documentary’s full-length trailer , Fielder questions Holmes directly while she insists she has nothing to hide. At one point, she sheds a single tear.
The film also explores Holmes’ relationship with her husband, Billy Evans, whose family has a successful hotel business, according to CBC .
Fielder asks Evans whether he worried Holmes was “sort of scamming” him.
“100%, but what did she have to gain from me?” Evans replies.
When Fielder points out that Evans’ family is wealthy, Evans responds: “Yeah, I think that there’s a lot of different levels of wealth.”
