Milwaukee Brewers have yet to commit to postseason Game 3 starter

The Milwaukee Brewers, once again, will finish the regular season with the best record in Major League Baseball. At 102-59, they have set the franchise record for wins in a single season despite the fact they have not had a winning streak longer than five games at any point this year.

Looking ahead to the postseason, it is clear that Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson will be Milwaukee’s first two starting pitchers in each series that they play. What is not known, and somehow is a testament to how successful they have been this year, is who will start a third game.
Indeed, the Brewers pitching staff has been one of the biggest strengths all season long. However, at this point in the year, there are not many starters that have performed well enough to be tasked with starting a postsesaon game.
Dustin May is an option to start for the Milwaukee Brewers in the postseason

One option for the Brewers as a potential Game Three starter is Dustin May, whom they acquired ahead of the MLB trade deadline this year. However, he is just 2-2 with a 5.65 ERA in 10 starts for Milwaukee. He did, however, have a relatively decent showing on Saturday night, going three innings while allowing two runs and striking out five.
“I don’t know,” Brewers pitching coach Chris Hook said when asked if May could start a Game Three in the postseason. “I think we’ll have that conversation about who goes where on Monday. I really don’t know where most guys are going to fit. Our group will get together and we’ll talk through that. The biggest thing for him is to come out of this one in a good spot, like, ‘Now I feel like I’m ready to do this.’ That’s No. 1 for me.”
Another option, one that may be more popular among fans, is Robert Gasser.
On Friday night, Gasser pitched six innings of one-run ball while setting a new career-high with nine strikeouts. It was his second quality start in a row, having thrown seven innings of shutout ball against the Baltimore Orioles earlier in the week.
Overall, Gasser is 5-5 with a 3.87 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) this year.
When asked about a potential Game Three starter, manager Pat Murphy said, “I guess we’ve got to break it down and really sit down and look at everybody’s health, where they’re at, how we’re going to go about the series. Who we’re playing, it matters.”
As it stands right now, Milwaukee will face either the Chicago Cubs or San Diego Padres in the NLDS. It will be interesting to see how the team they face affects the decision they make regarding their starting rotation.
