Twice as nice: Jesse Clegg sings the anthem again [video]

Jesse Clegg sang his second consecutive national anthem for the Springboks, who played against the Wallabies in Australia on Sunday, 27 September.

The South African singer – the son of the late Johnny Clegg – performed Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika in Baltimore earlier this month.

The Boks were beaten 42-38 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

JESSE CLEGG PERFORMS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AGAIN

As he did in Baltimore, Jesse Clegg brought South African expats living abroad together with his rendition of the national anthem.

This time, the South African community in Perth, nicknamed “Perthfontein”, were moved to tears during the performance.

On social media, rugby fans were also touched by his act, which came days after South Africa celebrated Heritage Day.

Earlier this month, Johnny Clegg sang the national anthem in Baltimore during Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry’s finale between the Springboks and All Blacks.

The 38-year-old described the performance as an “incredible honour”.

He shared on his social media platform: “Standing in that stadium and singing for my country, the team and thousands of South Africans was an experience I’ll never forget”

HOW MANY SOUTH AFRICANS LIVE IN AUSTRALIA, ‘PERTHFONTEIN’?

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics estimate from June 2025, there are around 230 000 South Africa-born people living in Australia.

For Perth, the most recent detailed figure remains the 2021 Census, which recorded close to 40 000 South Africa-born residents in Perth- home to Australia’s most densely populated South African expat community.

Australia ranks second to the UK, which has the largest South African diaspora community in the world.
