MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The University Hawks are off to a scorching hot 5-0 start to begin the 2026 campaign. University boasts one of the most versatile offenses in the Mountain State. One of the cogs that makes that clock tick is senior tailback Brody Kehler.

Last Friday night against Fairmont Senior, Kehler tallied 181 rushing yards and 222 all-purpose yards, while finding the endzone twice in the Hawks' 56-14 win over the Polar Bears.
"I think our line has such a great push," Kehler said. "I think our receivers have great blocking on the boundary. So, I feel like once I get out there, I'm pretty good on the outside."
As we reach the halfway point of the season, Kehler has put up 536 rushing yards on 52 carries, along with 739 yards altogether, and scoring nine touchdowns. But like any good running back will admit, it wouldn't be possible to have that success without the men up front.
"I'm definitely very comfortable back there," Kehler said. "I think we have the best line in the state, definitely one of the bigger ones. [They] just allow me to play freely and get me going."
‘We understand this change can be hard for some’: Salem University’s athletic director speaks on move to NAIAKehler is part of an offensive juggernaut, one that is averaging nearly 58 points per game. And when you have players like Kehler averaging 105 rushing yards, quarterback Harrison Helbig averaging more than 300 passing yards, and wideout Hayden George averaging 108 receiving yards, it's easy to see why the Hawks are lighting up the scoreboards on Friday nights.
"We're very explosive," said Kehler. "[It's] really hard to guard our pass game and run game. [It's] really hard to scheme us in any way."
University is one of three remaining undefeated teams in north central West Virginia, and they look to keep it that way Friday night against The Linsly School.
"I definitely think we have to strike early, keep doing what we're doing on offense and really hold them on the run game this week on defense," Kehler said.
The Hawks kick off against the Cadets from Mylan Pharmaceutical Stadium at 7 p.m.
