Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey (questionable, wrist) is expected to play against the Browns on Thursday night, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Ramsey revealed on Tuesday that he suffered a broken wrist in Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Ramsey said the injury occurred on the first series.

Ramsey made eight tackles while playing through a broken wrist. He also played every defensive snap against the Bengals.

The Steelers will have Brandin Echols active for Thursday night, as the team upgraded his status to no injury designation after clearing concussion protocol and being listed as questionable on Wednesday.

Running back Rico Dowdle (toe) has been ruled out.

STEELERS TRANSACTIONS

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. during a game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 13, 2026. — Ed Thompson / Steelers Now

Late Wednesday night, Steelers general manager Omar Khan shipped Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys for a package that includes a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Porter had been full-go during the Steelers’ first two practices this week before dropping down to being a limited participant on Wednesday, then being ruled out for the team’s game on the road against the Browns on Thursday night.

Porter didn’t play in a game for the Steelers this season after waiting on a new contract that never came during the offseason. Meanwhile, he watched Cleveland’s Denzel Ward, Seattle’s Devon Witherspoon and New England’s Christian Gonzalez reset the market.

This is the third time over the past two years that Khan has done business with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, having shipped mercurial receiver George Pickens and former first-round draft pick Broderick Jones to America’s team.

For the second week in a row, the Pittsburgh Steelers are calling on Lew Nichols to bolster their running game. The Steelers elevated the fourth-year tailback to the active roster ahead of Thursday night’s matchup with the Browns.

Nichols signed to the Steelers practice squad after an impressive preseason. He also spent last year on Pittsburgh’s practice squad, playing one game exclusively on special teams.

The Steelers also have signed Doneiko Slaughter from their practice squad to the 53-man roster ahead of Thursday night’s game. Slaughter was elevated for the first three games, which is the maximum, so the Steelers had to sign him to the 53-man roster.

Slaughter has appeared in 15 snaps over the Steelers’ first three games, all on the club’s punt return units. He recorded two tackles against the Bengals.

THE LAST TIME

With a playoff spot on the line, the Steelers fell flat on their face in Cleveland.

Pittsburgh’s passing offense basically didn’t show up until it was much too late, as the Steelers couldn’t come back from an early 10-point deficit, losing 13-6 to the Browns at Huntington Bank Field.

Three times in the game, the Steelers drove down the field, but were unable to come up with points including on the final drive of the game, when the Steelers finished seven yards short. Aaron Rodgers threw three straight incompletions to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, all incomplete.

Rodgers had his worst statistical performance of the season, finishing 21 of 39 for 168 yards. He did not throw an interception, but was sacked twice, fumbled once and maintained a mere 64.9 passer rating.

His leading receiver was tight end Pat Freiermuth, who had one catch entering the final drive of the game and finished with three catches for 63 yards.

The Browns scored on each of their first two possessions, with Shedeur Sanders getting bailed out for an awful throw by Harold Fannin, who made an incredible adjustment for a 28-yard touchdown, the game’s only score.

No Love for Cleveland

Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth shared a wild story from the Steelers’ 15-10 win over the Browns in Cleveland in 2021. Freiermuth scored the game-winning touchdown, and Browns fans took out their frustration in a classless way.

“Cleveland fans threw beer at my mother in my rookie year after I scored a touchdown,” Freiermuth said on Monday. “I’m not too big a fan of them, but it’s all good.”

Freiermuth added that it’s “all for the love of the game” and that his mom was OK with it. But he did note that his mom doesn’t go to games in Cleveland anymore.

STEELERS-BROWNS ALL-TIME SERIES

The Steelers lead the all-time series against the Browns, 83-65-1. Thursday night will be the 150th meeting betweetn the two clubs. The rivalry began in 1950.

The Browns have had the Steelers number in recent years in Cleveland. Since 2019, the Browns are 6-1 against the Steelers at home. Three of those wins have come on Thursday night.

Former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was 0-4 against the Browns on TNF in Cleveland. The losses came in 2009, 2019, 2022 and 2024. Perhaps McCarthy will have better luck, but Cleveland on TNF was a house of horrors for Tomlin. McCarthy is 16-6 on short weeks and 17-8 on Thursday games.

The Steelers’ all-time record in road divisional matchups since 1970 is a whopping 0-9 on Thursday nights. Overall, they hold an underwhelming 14-22 record all-time on Thursday nights.

The last time Pittsburgh won a road game on Thursday night was in 2007 against the St. Louis Rams.

The Browns are 10-2 in Thursday night games in Cleveland.
