Rams look to shoot down Skyhawks in Mitchell Stadium nightcap

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield University football team looks for another high-octane offensive outing when they open AAC play versus Point University in college football nightcap at Mitchell Stadium tonight.

The Rams (2-3, 0-0) are coming off of a 30-26 win over Virginia-Lynchburg last week that saw Bluefield University produce 432 yards total offense. That included 331 yards on the ground — the Ram’s highest rushing total since facing the Dragons last season.

Kyree Edwards turned in another noteworthy performance, rushing 29 times for 232 yards and two touchdowns — the third highest single game rushing performance in program history. Rayjuan Traynham rushed 15 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Zack Paulk passed for 101 yards while Jamonta Chavis paced the receivers with 48 yards on four catches.

Zyrohn Canady and Elijah Padgett led the Rams defense, which recorded seven tackles for loss and four sacks. Canady had a career day of nine tackles — three for loss — and nine quarterback sacks. Padgett had 11 tackles and a half sack.

Point (0-3, 0-0) is coming off an open date that was preceded by a 65-0 trouncing at Charleston Southern on Sept. 19.

Quarterback Payton Allen has paced the Skyhawks passing game, completing 45-of-93 passing attempts for 486 yards and a touchdown. He has been picked off four times. Messiah Wilson leads the receiving corps with 12 catches for 134 yards.

The Skyhawks have churned out 252 yards rushing by committee.

The point defense has allowed 463.3 yards per game.
