Nestlé’s low-fat dairy whitener sample found ‘unsafe’ at Delhi hotel, says regulator

A sample of Nestlé’s low-fat dairy whitener collected from The LaLiT hotel in Delhi’s Connaught Place was found to be “unsafe and substandard”, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India said on Saturday.
In a social media post, the food regulator said that it had directed that the sale of the product be immediately prohibited.
It added that a food analyst’s laboratory report found that the product did not comply with the 2006 Food Safety and Standards Act.
The regulator said that a copy of the laboratory analysis report was provided to Bharat Hotels Limited, the food business operator, for reference and necessary action. It also issued a notice to the company over the non-compliant product.
“The FBO [food business operator] was provided an opportunity to appeal against the food analyst’s report under Section of the FSS Act, 2006, within the prescribed period,” it said.
Responding to the development, The LaLiT said the product had been procured from Nestlé India and was collected by FSSAI from the hotel around three months ago. It said that, upon receiving communication from the regulator, it immediately discontinued the product’s use and removed all packets
The hotel said that Nestlé had assured it that the company would respond directly to the regulator.
