When you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up (provided you’re not the industrious type who likes to bring a shovel). For the Red Wings, its hard to say when, or if, they’ve hit rock bottom, but some days in the first week of the 2026-27 season have certainly felt like it.

Detroit, on the back of a a two-point night from Dylan Larkin and a three point night from Alex DeBrincat were able to stave off the Ottawa Senators 5-3.

Carter Mazur and William Wallinder also had an exciting night, with the two Red Wings rookies finishing with their first NHL career points coming in the win. Both assisted on goals in Detroit’s three goal run between the second and first period, with Wallinder getting the primary on what would be Justin Faul’s game-deciding goal late in the second period.

Detroit finds itself back in the win column for the first time in nearly six months, with their last win coming on April 9th of last season over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Red Wings will have a two day break before their next game on Friday against the Seattle Kraken.

With three games under their belt, Detroit has the opportunity to come out of their four gam homestand with a .500 record.

“I haven’t been disappointed in our team at all, and we only have two of six points, so we’ll
continue to grow it, and hopefully that solves some of the other things that are going on.” Head coach Todd McLellan said.

In Case You Missed It

Gordie Howe is back in the news to start the NHL season.

Kevin Allen has some injury updates for the Red Wings lineup.

More on how the Red Wings won the night.

Red Wings Extra:

All of the Red Wings last night were in on the action in last night’s end-of-second-period scrum after Larkin took issue with Ridly Greig trying to pummel DeBrincat with only seconds left before the whistle. Emmitt Finnie, who has impressed so far with the gloves on and with the puck on his stick, found other ways to make sure people remembered he was on ice, even if he didn’t light up the stat sheet like some of his other teammates.

as you can tell, i stayed very calm and nonchalant. thank you finnie for fighting right in front of absolutefinema. #LGRWpic.twitter.com/shLk1pGUJ4
