  • Jeff Bezos said on Wednesday that he's piled $28 billion of his own money into Blue Origin.
  • Elon Musk responded "Bravo!" on X, saying he's "glad" that Bezos "cares so much about space."
  • Musk and Bezos, who are rivals in the space industry, have clashed many times over the years.

There's no love lost between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, but the Tesla and SpaceXAI CEO has openly applauded the Amazon founder for pouring nearly $30 billion of his fortune into building his spaceflight company.

"Bravo!" Musk replied on X to a clip of Bezos telling Fox News during a live interview on Wednesday that he's "personally invested $28 billion" in Blue Origin since founding it in 2000.

"I'm glad Jeff Bezos cares so much about space," Musk added.

Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon CEO in 2021 but remains the e-commerce giant's executive chair, said Blue Origin had just raised more than $10 billion in its first external funding round.

The serial entrepreneur, worth $285 billion as of Wednesday's close per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, told Fox News' Brett Baier that it was the right time to cease self-funding the company.

"I see the financial future of Blue with some clarity now, and I didn't really want to take outside investors until I was sure it would be a good investment for them," he said.

Bezos added that he expects Blue Origin to "be a public company at some point," but its IPO will be "several years from now."

Musk and Bezos have historically butted heads over launchpads, government contracts, patents, talent, copycatting, and more, with Musk once labeling Bezos' company "Sue Origin."

But the first- and third-richest people on the planet have also spoken admiringly of each other. Musk has said he pokes fun at Bezos because he wants to goad him into working harder at Blue Origin, so he may well have praised Bezos for piling $28 billion of his own money into the company because that's a clear sign of dedication.
