The 19-year-old has already surpassed the Real Madrid forward’s tally before the age of 19 and is now chasing another milestone in a competition where he continues to make history.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Yamal has scored 12 goals and registered 11 assists across 34 Champions League appearances.
His strike against Feyenoord on the opening matchday of this season’s league phase took him to within one goal of Mbappe’s record of 13 goals before his 20th birthday.
With Yamal continuing to play a central role in Hansi Flick’s attack, the next milestone could arrive soon, quite specifically against Galatasaray this week.

Yamal has already moved ahead of Mbappe in one age-based scoring benchmark.
The Barcelona forward scored 11 Champions League goals before turning 19, which is one more than the Frenchman managed at the same age.
The next target is more demanding: Mbappe scored 13 times in the competition before turning 20. Yamal currently sits on 12, leaving him just one strike short of matching the Real Madrid star’s mark and two from breaking the record.

He made his Champions League debut at 16 against Antwerp before becoming the youngest starter in the competition, which he did against FC Porto.
In March 2025, he became the youngest player to score and assist, doing so against Benfica in the round of 16.
In April 2025, he added another landmark by becoming the youngest player to score in a Champions League semi-final, finding the net against Inter Milan.
Mbappe has long served as a benchmark for teenage excellence in European football, but now, Yamal is challenging some of the records that helped define the French forward’s rise.
