The Los Angeles Dodgers will be heading home down 2-0 in their series with the Milwaukee Brewers. On Monday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto took to the mound for the Dodgers. Yamamoto didn’t have his best stuff, giving up three runs in just 2.2 innings.

Yamamoto was a postseason hero in 2025, including racking up three World Series wins against the Toronto Blue Jays. While Yamamoto previously seemed untouchable, he was human in his last start, something Jayson Stark of The Athletic pointed out.
First, Stark noted the difference between Yamamoto’s last appearance in the 2025 playoffs and his most recent game.

“Outs by Yamamoto in this game — eight (on 75 pitches). Outs by Yamamoto in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series — eight in relief (on 34 pitches). Hat tip: Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times,” Stark wrote.
Yamamoto faced five batters in the first inning, giving up one run. He would go three up and three down in the second, but then faced six batters before being pulled in the third. Further, the Dodgers had to burn through their bullpen.
“Pitchers used by the Dodgers in Yamamoto’s start Monday — eight! Pitchers used by the Dodgers in Yamamoto’s five wins last postseason — seven!” Stark continued.
The use of the bullpen could be an issue down the road. The Dodgers are off on Tuesday as they travel back to Los Angeles. They have not named a starter for Game 3 against the Brewers on Wednesday. With both Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow not pitching in the game on Monday, one of them could get the Game 3 start, with the other making the start on Thursday in Game 4.
