Brewers announcer gives perfect Bob Uecker homage on final NLCS call

Milwaukee Brewers radio play-by-play announcer Jeff Levering snuck in a perfect Bob Uecker homage in calling the final out of Milwaukee's 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Oct. 15, securing the National League Championship Series and clinching a spot in the World Series for the first time since 1982.

Here's how Levering, who inherited the primary radio responsibilities when the iconic Brewers broadcaster Uecker died before the 2025 season, described the final pitch by Aaron Ashby to Kiké Hernández:

"The 0-2 pitch. Lined into the gap in left center, Chourio back and he makes the catch! The Brewers win the pennant! Oh my God, the Brewers win the pennant! The World Series will go through Wisconsin!"

The "Oh my God" might sound familiar. Uecker, playing the character of Harry Doyle in the movie "Major League," uttered a very similar line when Cleveland wins the pennant in the iconic 1989 comedy filmed in Milwaukee.

The homage might gain even greater significance if the Brewers wind up playing Cleveland in the World Series. The Guardians have a 2-1 lead on the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Championship Series after a win earlier Oct. 15.

Levering, 43, joined the Brewers radio team in 2015 and toggles between TV and radio broadcasts. He works with Lane Grindle and Josh Maurer on the radio side.

Uecker handled the final broadcast of the 2024 season, a heartbreaking loss to the New York Mets in Game 3 of the wild-card series, thanks in large part to a memorable Pete Alonso home run.

Uecker succumbed to small-cell cancer at age 90 the following January. He remains one of the foremost sports personalities in Wisconsin history.
