More than 20 years ago now, the 2004 American League Championship Series was arguably the greatest in Major League Baseball history. For Boston Red Sox fans especially, it was a chance to overcome a 3-0 series deficit against the New York Yankees, and to do so for the first time in ALCS history.

This was never expected to happen, especially with that Yankees team back then, undoubtedly one of the best in Major League Baseball history.

Fortunately for the Red Sox, they came back to win Game 4 in extra innings, then Game 5 in extra innings, before turning to Curt Schilling in Game 6 and blowing the Yankees out in Game 7.

Former Red Sox starter Pedro Martinez threw three times in that series, struggling a bit in all three outings. He allowed three earned runs in his first start, four in his second over six innings, and two in a one-inning bullpen appearance.

While it wasn't his best performance, he's still part of history, and he can talk to Yankees fans about it whenever he wants. Martinez recently shared some hilarious stories about it, adding that all Yankees fans want to stop talking the second he brings it up.

“For them to blow a three-game lead to none to us, and the way they did it against us, in their own park?” Martinez said of the 3-0 lead the Yankees blew against the Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS, per NJ.com. “The way we did it, it’s hard to imagine that you have to carry that on your shoulder for the rest of your career. I imagine how painful it was for the Yankees and their fans, to see now that I could ask them, ‘Who’s your daddy now?’

“When you tell them, ‘0-3, 0-3,’ they don’t talk anymore because it’s the biggest embarrassment in all of sports.”

Martinez had a storied career, and that 2004 World Series really topped it off. He was 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA and struck out 227 hitters in 217.0 innings.

He helped the Red Sox throughout much of the postseason, aside from the ALCS, finishing with a 4.00 ERA despite some tough outings against New York.
