On Monday morning it was revealed that Hurts, who initially had a superficial blood clot in his calf after getting cleated there in Week 4, now has multiple in his lungs, which will force him to miss the rest of the season.

In the wake of that news breaking, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Hurts was up all night in a hospital until 4 a.m. while getting tests done in advance of the Week 5 game in London because “sleep was a risk” to his health under the circumstances.

Yet, despite no sleep and the clear risk Hurts was under beforehand, the Eagles let him play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 anyway.

“Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season after several blood clots were revealed in his lungs, has been undergoing tests for days,” Rapoport wrote. “Before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep because sleep was a risk. He played without having slept.”

Just grossly irresponsible on the part of the Eagles.

It’s bad enough that the Eagles let him play with the uncertain situation surrounding the initial blood clot, but to let Hurts play on zero sleep only makes it worse.

Granted, there’s no doubt Hurts wanted to play, but sometimes a team has to protect a player from himself and that was the case here, yet the Eagles failed miserably to do so.

In tandem with the news of Hurts’ rest-of-season status, his agent, Nicole Lynn, released a statement giving more information on the Eagles quarterback’s situation.

“Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis,” Lynn said.

“After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli,” she added. “He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations.”

From here, Hurts’ treatment will include blood thinners and his “prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” Lynn added.

The expectation is Hurts will resume football activities when he’s cleared, but as has been reported, he has played his last snap of 2026.
