It happened again to Western Michigan.

An unforgettable football game 48 days ago saw the Broncos lose to Michigan on a controversial touchdown as time expired. On Friday night, the Wolverines hockey team handed WMU a similar ending, though this time with less debate about the clock.

Michigan scored three third-period goals during a 3-2 win over the fifth-ranked WMU, which ended with Will Horcoff, who was at Michigan Stadium when Bryce Underwood found JJ Buchanan last month, beating goaltender Quentin Miller with 0.1 seconds to play.

The Broncos tried a Hail Mary of their own, challenging for offside, but the goal stood.

“I honestly just went black,” said Horcoff afterward via MLive.com. “I was in shock. I couldn’t believe it.”

“I was like, ‘There’s no way that actually happened,’” said defenseman Dakoda Rheaume-Mullen. “That’s a crazy coincidence. That’s a crazy finish. Playing a good team like Western Michigan and winning like that at the last second, that’s why you play till the last second.”

The top-ranked Wolverines improved to 7-0-0 on the season and are back on the ice next weekend for two games at Ohio State.
