Vikings Schedule MRI for Injured Running Back

The Minnesota Vikings improved to 6-0 Sunday, with a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Of course, as has been the case for most of 2026, the victory did not come without sacrifice.

This time it was running back Aaron Jones who left the game in the fourth quarter, following his best run of the day, a 17-yard scamper that ended with his already injured left knee getting hit awkwardly from both sides, one during the initial hit, and then on the other side of the same knee, after it whipped around and banged off another Colts defender.

However, you can also see the medial side of the knee whip as a result of contact from another Colts defender. Concern for a potential ligament injury here. We’ll see how this develops.
Jones tried to run around and test out his knee after he emerged from the blue tent, but did not return to the game, finishing with just 26 yards on eight carries.
In his postgame press conference, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Jones aggravated the same knee injury he’s been dealing with since Week 2, when he first sprained his MCL against the Bears.
Aaron Jones to undergo MRI on left knee
According toMike Florio (PFT), Jones will undergo an MRI on knee Monday in order to diagnose the extent of the damage. As previously reported, Jones has been playing with a sprained left MCL, per Kevin Seifert (ESPN). He did not practice the Wednesday after the Bears game.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jones will have an MRI on Monday. The current hope is that it won’t be a long-term situation for Jones.

However, he returned the next day and has played/practiced in full since, essentially carrying the MN Vikings offense for multiple weeks while Kyler Murray and the pass game struggled to find its footing (a problem that continues into week 8).
Over the three games before the Week 6 bye, Jones ran for 265 yards on 62 carries (4.3 yards per carry), including his best game of the season against the New Orleans Saints, when he ran for 113 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
Jordan Mason returns as MN Vikings wait on Aaron Jones Sr.
For the season, Jones has 436 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 105 carries, plus 13 catches for 72 yards. Today, he was not that guy, even before he left the field. And the timing of this aggravated injury couldn’t be more interesting.
Not only did Jordan Mason return this weekend, after missing four games with a thumb injury he suffered in Week 1, but the trade deadline is creeping closer and there have already been reports linking the Vikings to both Saquon Barkley and Jonathan Taylor.
Aaron Jones’ preexisting left MCL sprain likely contributed to today’s knee issue. Without that underlying injury, I don’t believe this would have affected him much.

If Jones misses time, Minnesota does have Jordan Mason back.
If Jones has to sit out any extended period of time, that interest would undoubtedly go up, especially after the pushed their undefeated record to 6-0 on Sunday. Mason led the Vikings with 68 yards on 15 carries in his return, nearly double Jones’ workload.
The trade deadline is 16 days away, and the Vikings have already been linked to Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. Florio noted that the urgency to add a running back could increase if Jones misses time.
