Yuvraj Singh pokes fun at Abhishek Sharma for failing to break his T20I record
Abhishek Sharma is known to share a very close bond with India legend Yuvraj Singh and the southpaw even trains under the iconic all-rounder. Yuvraj took Abhishek under his wing since the start of the young opener's career and has played a big role in how the cricketer has turned out to be as a professional.

Since his international debut for India in 2024, Sharma has broken and created a lot of records and has been a mainstay in the India T20I side for the last three years.
However, one record that Abhishek is yet to smash in T20Is is Yuvraj's fastest half-century, which was set against England at the 2007 T20 World Cup. In the famous match where Singh smashed six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad, the Indian achieved the milestone.
In 2026, Abhishek Sharma came close to the record in two matches, both against New Zealand in Guwahati and Wellington, but missed out on the record. In January 2026, Sharma smashed a half-century off 14 balls, while in Wellington on Tuesday, he completed his 50 in 15 balls.
As Sharma missed out on the record again, Yuvraj cheekily pulled his protege's leg on social media, as he wrote on X, "You still can’t get 50 of 12 can you. @OfficialAbhi04 ! Looks like two left handers batting in their backyard!"
You still can’t get 50 of 12 can you 😜 @OfficialAbhi04! Looks like two left handers batting in their backyard! #IndVsNZ

However, Yuvraj patted the back of his disciple and added a second tweet hailing Abhishek's ability to score a century in 30 balls, which he scored against Afghanistan in Delhi earlier in September, 2026.
"And I can’t make 100 of 30 or 34 balls 😜 Well played sir. @OfficialAbhi04! Great innings aur apne single bhi le liye 🤷🏻♂️, " he wrote.
"Good stuff on the other end by #VaibhavSooryavanshi! Devastating combination! Hats off to @IamSanjuSamson, playing at no. 3 as a complete team man! Well-bowled by our bowlers to keep the score under 200! Great series win 👌 congratulations Team India 🇮🇳."

@YUVSTRONG12 @OfficialAbhi04 Your inning is unbelievable. No one will break this record in the coming years as well. That was pure brilliance by you in 2007. @YUVSTRONG12

'You still can’t get 50 of 12': Abhishek responds to Yuvraj Singh's social media jibe
During the post-match presentation, Abhishek responded with a laugh to Yuvraj's playful social media jibe.
"I have said this before; I don’t know what kind of cricket he was playing at that time," Abhishek quipped. "If anyone wants to go out and bat like that, it is not easy. Scoring a fifty in 12 balls is extraordinary. But we do not think about those individual numbers; our only focus is to go out there and win the match for the team."
Elaborating on his innings, Abhishek further added: "The key was pretty much simple: that Vaibhav and I enjoy our time. When we were fielding, we saw there was some extra bounce, and we realized we could target the shorter side.
"Vaibhav started off well, and we took the momentum from there. It is not that easy, but it comes down to the preparation. Huge shoutout to our coaching staff and our side-arm throwdown specialists. We had a good practice session yesterday, and I just wanted to use it. I manifested this innings, and it happened."
Abhishek will be back in action on Friday when India take on New Zealand in the fourth T20I. It is a dead rubber as the Men in Blue have already clinched the series.
