Mikel Brown Jr. makes a promise to Brooklyn Nets fans after losing to Boston Celtics

The game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics was an absolute thriller.

The Nets were losing at the end of regulation time, but Brown pulled off a clutch three-pointer with 0.2 seconds left on the clock to send the game to overtime.

The rookie was the hero in that moment, but the tables turned at the end of overtime, as his mistakes cost the Nets the win.

Brown missed two layups in the final six seconds of the game, when his side were leading. Instead of slowing the game down and drawing an intentional foul, he drove into traffic and missed a contested layup over Paul George.

The Celtics secured the rebound and called a timeout. Then, in the final action of the game, Jayson Tatum scored at the buzzer to win it.

That became a hero-to-zero moment in a short space of time for young Brown, but he showed extreme maturity after the game by taking accountability for his actions.

He tweeted: “That one is on me, Brooklyn! I’m going to shake back. I promise y’all that.”

Even in his post-match interviews, Brown put the blame on himself and admitted that his decision-making should’ve been better.

He said, as per Brian Lewis of the New York Post on X: “It’s a broken play. I blame me.

“We weren’t supposed to switch that and I switched it. Made a couple of mistakes down the stretch that hurt us. So I’m going to take the blame for it, learn from it and get prepared for the next game.”

Such accountability from such a young man is great to see. We’re sure Brown will learn from his mistakes and bounce back in the coming games.
