Halton cop charged in 2025 stolen vehicle chase
A Halton police officer has been charged more than a year after a pursuit of a stolen Hummer left the driver seriously injured.
In a news release Wednesday, the Special Investigations Unit said its director Joseph Martino “has reasonable grounds to believe a Halton Regional Police Service officer committed a criminal offence” in a police chase that happened on March 12, 2025.
The police watchdog said Halton cops were investigating the theft of a Kia Sedona from a home in Oakville that morning, which also involved a stolen GMC Hummer.
The drivers of both vehicles fled, and cops had attempted to stop them.
The SIU said the pursuit was led by Sgt. David Joseph, which ended in Mississauga after the the Hummer collided with a tractor-trailer at Winston Churchill Blvd. and Lakeshore Road E.
The 26-year-old driver of the Hummer was arrested and taken to hospital with a serious injury, the SIU said.
Joseph has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
He’s required to appear before a Milton court on Nov. 23.
“As the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation,” the SIU said.
