Nat Seaton:
‘How many shots and you lose 3-1?!?! (At least we did eventually score).
We never looked like getting anything out of the game and have to say Everton looked like they could score when they went forward and all 3 goals were not defended well.
A sad way to get knocked out and a long journey home to think about it.
Let’s hope for better things when we play them again on Monday, no doubt there will be some carry over as it was the usual ‘niggly’ Everton, thankfully we are at home this time.’
Greg McPeake:
‘When the ball doesn’t land right, when Lewis Hall is not man of the match, and when the referee is strange, you know it is not your day.
The 3 1 result flatters Everton.
One of those games, but at least 8000 Geordies didn’t have to listen to the biased atrocious commentary on Sky. Next TV game I’m off down little Portugal for several Super Bocks.’
Billy Miller:
‘The magic of the CarabHowe Cup is dead.
First time not reaching the quarter finals for 5 years.
At least there isn’t the risk of an embarrassment at Fleetwood but what an opportunity for another semi-final.
We were much the better side but didn’t take advantage of good positions we got into.
Some shocking officiating didn’t help.
Despite less than half our efforts, Everton made the most of them.
Fiery end and hopefully our players are riled up to get a worthy revenge on Monday.’
Tony Mallabar:
‘Apart from 15 minutes after the break, that was absolutely gubbins.
One player I thought that would kick on for us was Wissa, WRONG!!!!!
Dan Burn once again proving our only threat up front.
I’ve seen this before and we are heading into Bruce/McClaren territory.
Another worrying thing is how quickly Lewis Hall is regressing.’
David Punton:
‘There was time when Alan Pardew was our manager, that it felt like one step forward then two steps back.
It pains me to say that this week has just reminded me of that same period.
That display was a big let down, especially for the 8,000 who made the trip to Merseyside on a Thursday night.
Another game that throws up more questions that answers.
Will the real Newcastle Utd please stand up!
The even better news? We’ve got to play this lot again on Monday.’
Matt Busby said…:
‘Well, that was disappointing.
Not sure how we went in at the break two goals behind, but that was the reality, forcing Jaissle into a triple substitution that seemed to galvanise us until Barry got their third to put the tie well and truly beyond us.
We cannot finish and concede way too easily. Worrying times.’
GToon:
‘I don’t really know how to react tbh.
The days of shouting and wanting to smash things are slipping away and are being replaced by the sadness of what’s happening and the worry of what’s to come?
This manager is so far out of his depth it’s not true but apparently he needs time according to some people.
Time to do what? Make us even easier to play against?
He has absolutely no idea who to play or how to play. He is the German version of Amorim. Let me be the first. Jaissle out!’
