· Yahoo Sports
Patrick Staropoli endured a challenging afternoon in Saturday's The Progress Group 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 32nd after qualifying 21st. The Big Machine Racing rookie completed all 94 laps but was unable to maintain competitive track position during the final stages.
Staropoli began the afternoon near the middle of the field, facing the challenge of navigating the aggressive drafting conditions at NASCAR's largest superspeedway. His No. 48 Chevrolet remained in competition during the opening stages as JR Motorsports controlled much of the racing near the front.

Although Staropoli attempted to gain positions through the changing drafting lanes, maintaining momentum proved difficult. The race's first major accident occurred on Lap 57 when contact involving Harrison Burton and Taylor Gray triggered a multicar incident.
Staropoli avoided race-ending damage and continued competing during the final stage. However, he was unable to advance significantly and ultimately finished 32nd, earning five points from the event. Despite the disappointing result, Staropoli was officially credited as the race's highest-finishing rookie. He remains 23rd in the overall NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series standings with 406 points.
Staropoli holds a 12-point advantage over Kyle Sieg and will attempt to preserve that position during the final two races.
