Eckert explains star man’s absence in Southampton’s draw with West Brom

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert is optimistic Leo Scienza will return for Saturday’s game against Preston after the winger missed his side’s 1-1 draw against West Brom through injury.
Scienza was absent from the Saints squad after struggling with “pain”, Eckert said, having played through the problem in his previous appearance.

Eckert revealed the Brazilian had been unable to feature against West Brom but is hopeful he will recover in time for Southampton’s weekend clash.
“Yeah, he has pain,” Eckert explained.
“It’s just so much pain, and he pushed through in the last game as well, but I’m very positive that he’ll be back for Saturday.”
Reflecting on the draw, in which Samuel Edozie equalised for the Saints in the second half, Eckert said: “We changed that at half-time. I think the second half was a completely different game. There were a couple of chances in there to win it in the second half.
“But I think if you look at the 90 minutes today, you take the point. I think it’s a fair result. We will take the point and move on to Preston.”
