Cucurella is reportedly set to miss the next three-four weeks with a hamstring injury, which forced him off at half time in the draw against Leeds.

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of Chelsea’s most important players, and it’s a huge blow to lose him, especially with the games coming up.

Matt Law on Marc Cucurella absence

Cucurella has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season, but missed the win against Hull in the FA Cup.

Jorrel Hato, who arrived from Ajax has filled in, and it’s now a big opportunity for the teenager to make an impact and show what he can do.

If the time frame is correct, Cucurella will miss league matches against Burnley, Arsenal and Aston Villa, and the FA Cup tie against Wrexham.

His absence, especially in those big league matches will be a blow, and Law feels it’ll be interesting to see how Chelsea cope.

“If he misses Arsenal & Villa, which I expect him to at this stage, particularly if it’s going against Chelsea, it’ll be interesting how the team reacts without a Cucurella because I think he is a momentum shifter,” he told The London Is Blue Podcast.

Chelsea face big summer decision

Cucurella will have two years left on his contract in the summer, and Chelsea face a big decision with the Spain international.

Two years is the point under this ownership where a player is sold or they sign a new deal, and it’s vital the Blues get their key players tied down.

Cucurella signed an improved deal last year, but the length remained the same, and it’ll be fascinating to see what decision Chelsea make.
