Texas A&M HC Mike Elko discusses record 13 NFL combine players

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's 2025 season ended at 11-2, 7-1 in the SEC, and served as the program's first trip to the College Football Playoff. Under head coach Mike Elko, who, in just his second season at the helm, led the Aggies to their first 11-win season since the early 90's, is well aware that the 2025 roster is by far the most talented group of players he's coached so far.

Sending a nation-leading 13 players from the 2025 roster to the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Elko has already proven his ability to recruit, signing a 2026 class filled with blue-chip prospects, combined with landing 17 players from the transfer portal, including Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton.

On Thursday, during the first day of the combine, one of Elko's veteran starters along the defensive line, senior DL Albert Regis, had quite the performance among all 32 NFL team representatives, led by his impressive 9’8” broad jump, which led all defensive tackles on the day. Paired with a 4.92 40-yard dash time on his first attempt and 4.88 on his second, the fifth‑fastest among defensive tackles—paired with a strong 1.73-second 10‑yard split that reflects his first‑step quickness.

Regis is just the first of the 13 players who look to improve their draft status, and during the recruiting dead period, with just a few weeks before the spring football season, Mike Elko made his way to Indianapolis to watch his former players and sat down with the NFL Network to discuss all things football, with a focus on his 13 players headed to the NFL.

Mike Elko on the program's record-setting 13 NFL combine players

"I'm happy for our guys and excited for the representation of Texas A&M, but i'm also wondering how we'll fix it next year with losing all these guys."

Elko on the importance of the NFL Scouting Combine

"It's great to see our guys out here. This is the hope of every college coach out there that you can have this kind of representation here on this stage. I just wanted to come up and support them the best I can."

Elko on NFL development in recruitment

"Their dreams are to go to the NFL, not make NIL money in college football. NIL has changed the landscape of everything, but kids are still wanting to be here and get to the next level."

Elko on Albert Regis's impressive performance

"I was there as a defensive coordinator when we recruited Al. We found him as a high school fullback that we thought could project as a really good defensive tackle. It was really awesome to see what he became."

Elko on the importance of defensive linemen at the next level

"The ability to impact the quarterback is one thing that goes at every level. The more impactful you can be on the D line, the better team you'll have. The teams that are most represented here on the D line all made the playoffs."
