Getting an accurate read on Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert isn't an easy thing to do, especially with differing opinions on him.
Some think Herbert is a top-five-ish quarterback, while others scoff at that notion because what has Herbert done to deserve such an elevated ranking?
Yes, we've seen glimpses, but what else? Herbert is 0-3 in the postseason, and while he's had three double-digit winning seasons, each has ended the same way. Poorly.
But will 2026 be different? Mike McDaniel is his offensive coordinator, and hopefully, his two stud offensive linemen are healthy.
For ESPN's Seth Walder, this could be the year where it all comes together for Justin.
"Herbert has long been held in a slightly higher regard than his production would indicate, and the pairing with new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel (and, ideally, two healthy tackles) should give us the opportunity to finally see Herbert perform with a favorable supporting cast," Walder wrote. "This could be the year we see Herbert's elite ceiling."

Will Herbert break through in 2026?
I've been hearing it since his rookie season, and each year, Herbert, at times, through no fault of his own, others were his fault, has failed.
So, color me skeptical on that.
But McDaniels, as his OC, could be a game-changer. We saw his work with Tua Tagovailoa in the early stages in Miami, so the imagination runs wild with the thoughts of what he could be with Herbert.
But rather, seeing is believing, and in Herbert's case, he doesn't have the benefit of the doubt. He's failed too many times.
So, until I actually see it, it's status quo on how he's viewed as a quarterback.
