Rams named as a best fit for Anthony Richardson by 2 analysts

The Los Angeles Rams aren't in the market for a new quarterback yet, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do a little window shopping. Matthew Stafford will be back for another season in 2026, but his future beyond next season is cloudy at best.
While L.A. could find its future franchise quarterback in the 2026 draft, there is another avenue they could go down: The trade market. While many names have been touted, two analysts from NFL.com think Anthony Richardson should be a great fit for the Rams.

Marc Ross and Maurice Jones-Drew both pick L.A. as "ideal landing spots" for Richardson, who recently requested a trade from the Colts after his third season.
Ross thinks Richardson would be able to learn a lot under Stafford and could turn build his stock back up with Sean McVay as his head coach.
"Richardson's situation is a Catch-22. He has so little playing experience that he needs to get on the field in order to develop, yet he still is not ready to play at a consistent enough level to produce wins as a starter," Ross wrote. "Thus, a role with the Rams would be an ideal landing spot. He would learn behind reigning MVP Matthew Stafford in the Sean McVay offense, and the only other QB on the current roster is Stetson Bennett, who was drafted 124 spots behind Richardson in the 2023 draft. The hope would be for Richardson to emerge much like this offseason's top quarterback in the free agency market, Malik Willis, who saw drastic improvements under Matt LaFleur (the same offense McVay runs in L.A.)."
Jones-Drew agreed, pointing to other McVay-like coaches who helped reclaim other first-round busts.
"Sam Darnold went from former first-round bust to Super Bowl champion, and a huge player in that career turnaround was learning from coaches Kyle Shanahan and Kevin O'Connell during stops in San Francisco and Minnesota, respectively," Jones-Drew wrote. "Richardson could be the NFL's next reclamation project if he lands in the right spot after his tumultuous stint in Indy. Learning under Shanahan or Sean McVay in Los Angeles could help Richardson turn his career around and potentially earn another chance to eventually start."
Ross and MJD aren't the only analysts who think the Rams are a good fit for Richardson. Robert Griffin III is also a fan of this move. Griffin III called a trade to L.A. "his Sam Darnold reset year."
There are clear pros and cons to trading for Richardson, and it's unclear if the Rams are even interested in pulling off this move. But, at least in the media, some favor the decision. It would also be a stepping stone to a potential post-Stafford future, unless the Rams have other plans.
