Maplewood’s historic season ends in regional final

MASSILLON, Ohio (WKBN) – Maplewood girls basketball suffered a 31-25 loss to Seneca East in the Division VII regional championship at Perry High School on Saturday night.

The Rockets’ season ends with an overall record of 23-4, making it to regionals for the first time in 13 years and finishing with the most wins since 2008.
“Phenomenal, resilience, they put so much time and work in and it was evident here tonight,” Maplewood head coach Stephanie Pykare said. “Seneca is a great team and so we have been building to this moment. I’m super proud, just really proud to be a rocket.”
Maplewood maintained a 15-8 halftime lead before Seneca East outscored the Rockets 23-10 in the second half.
Senior Morgan Himes scored a team-high 13 points despite the Rockets’ loss.
For Seneca East, Izzy Stockmaster also scored 13 points and Alexa Snay pitched in 10.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 20-7 and will take on Russia in the Division VII state semifinal on March 14.
