The starting pitcher rejoined the Red Sox on Friday following a sharp WBC outing for the Dominican Republic. Bello allowed one hit and one run with seven strikeouts and no walks in a pool-play victory over Israel.

Although the Dominican Republic advanced to the knockout stage, Bello is back with Boston as the country prepares for Friday's quarterfinal matchup against Korea. The 26-year-old discussed his WBC detour.

"The experience was amazing," Bello said through a translator. "I feel like, not even in the playoffs -- the short experience I had in the playoffs -- was something even similar to that. The way that you leave those games is unique."

Bello played on a loaded DR roster featuring Juan Soto, Julio Rodriguez, Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Junior Caminero. He'd like to get another opportunity to play in the 2029 WBC.

"The takeaway for me is being able to share a clubhouse with so many stars, so many superstars from my country," Bello said. "And to be able to represent my country was great. I hope to be back next World Baseball Classic and pitch again for my country."

Courtesy of WEEI, Bello said he returned to the Red Sox since he wasn't scheduled to start either of the next two potential games for the Dominican Republic. Cristopher Sánchez will start on Friday, and Luis Severino is lined up to pitch a possible semifinal game on Sunday.

Bello needed to make a longer appearance to ramp up for the 2026 MLB season.

"I decided it was best for us, for me, to come back here," Bello explained. "I feel that was the right decision. Also, I know that Severino is going to do very well. I'll be watching here (to see) how they win that game on Sunday and keep rooting for them while I'm here."
