The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed a proven college scorer to a free agent contract.
The newest addition is Brandon Buhr, with the Leafs announcing the deal on Wednesday. They announced it as a one-year deal, beginning next season, and clarified that Buhr will join the Toronto Marlies in the AHL for the rest of the season.
Buhr just concluded his college career at Union College in New York state.
Union is a Division I school in just hockey.
The 23-year old forward put up 19 goals and 17 assists (36 points) in 35 games at Union this season.
He had previously played in the BCHL for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Buhr actually began his college career at Clarkson University, but it was at Union where he really found his footing.
Across three seasons, he scored 49 goals.
This is a nice low-risk move for the Maple Leafs, who don't have anything left to play for this season other than discovering who they plan to rely on in the future.
They've brought up newer players from the Marlies in recent weeks to start getting looks at new faces after trades and injuries. That has freed up opportunity at the AHL level.
It'll be up for Buhr to join the Marlies and hit the ground running to start to convince Toronto that he deserves to be a part of future plans.
