Whistle while you work — but did it work?

Baseball fans were both baffled and impressed during a performance of the American national anthem over the weekend.

Chris Ullman showed off why he is a four-time international whistling champion ahead of Saturday night’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

However, his rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” divided fans online.

“Only in baseball do you get something like that and it just fits perfectly,” one person praised, adding, “Whistling the anthem is different, but with a Hall of Famer doing it, you know the crowd had to lock in for that performance.”

Another added: “Kinda weird but it’s a bird team so it works.”

A third supporter commented: “That has to be the most unique rendition of the national anthem in all of sports and I say that wholeheartedly.”

‘I’d rather hear Roseanne’

However, others weren’t exactly fans, with many questioning the existence of a whistling Hall of Fame, of which Ullman is a member.

“What is this? What’s happening?” one user on X asked.

Another pointed out: “Didn’t even hold the final note in tune. I’m all for creativity but this ain’t it.”

A third added: “I’d rather hear Rosanne again.”

Some fans were hoping he would transition into a 1960s TV theme song.

“I almost thought he might do the Andy Griffith theme song instead!,” one person wrote. “You youngins out there probably have no idea what I’m talking about!”

The Orioles won Saturday’s matchup over the Giants 6-2, and won the series with the same score on Sunday.

The O’s are in a three-way tie for first in the American League East with an 8-7 record to start the season.

The Blue Jays and Red Sox are tied for last, each boasting a 6-9 start.

Perhaps fellow bird team the Blue Jays might want to enlist Ullman’s services, though Ullman doesn’t appear to travel too far from his Virginia home to perform at sporting events.

Ullman has previously whistled the national anthem at Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Washington Nationals games, as well as at Duke men’s basketball, according to his website .

He has also “serenaded” former U.S. President George W. Bush at the Oval Office, and performed with 10 symphony orchestras.
