It was fun while it lasted.
Max Meyer suffered his first loss of the season as the Miami Marlins opened July with a 6-3 loss against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

Ironically, Meyer lowered his ERA to 2.53 after allowing only one earned run on six hits and five strikeouts. It’s the two home runs and four other unearned runs that did him in.
“I thought Max was good tonight,” Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said after the game. “It's the conditions here that take a toll on your body, though.”
The Rockies got started with a solo home run by Mickey Moniak in the first inning to go up 1-0. It was Moniak’s 14th home run of the season.
The Marlins rallied back in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Liam Hicks singled and Heriberto Hernandez doubled to set up a two-run triple by Javier Sanoja.
The Rockies struck back to take a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning. Colorado found two base runners on a fielder’s choice and an error before scoring on a two-run triple by Moniak. Hunter Goodman put the final touches on the rally with a two-run homer, his 27th of the season.
The Marlins added a little wildness in the seventh inning with an inside-the-park home run. It was his sixth of the season and one much more difficult than the dinger he hit the night before.
Kyle Karros hit his sixth home run, a solo shot to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap the scoring on a wild win on the last place Rockies (34-53).
Moniak went 3-for-4 with three RBI and was a single short of a cycle.
Kyle Freeland earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in five innings for Colorado.
Top Pitching Prospect to Futures GameKarson Milbrandt was selected to represent the Marlins in the 2026 Futures Game on Sunday, July 12, in Philadelphia.
Milbrandt already appeared in the Arizona Fall League last year, which has a good track record for predicting big league potential.
Milbrandt, the Marlins' No. 4 prospect, has been one of the best pitchers not only in the Marlins' farm system but also in the minor leagues. In 13 starts between Double-A and Triple-A, Milbrandt has posted a 1.63 ERA with 89 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched.
Top Hitting Prospect to ILAiva Arquette, the Marlins' No. 3 prospect, injured his left thumb and will miss around six weeks on the injured list, according to MLB.com. The 22-year-old has nine home runs, 36 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 41 games between High-A Beloit and Double-A Pensacola.
Up NextThe Marlins (46-41) look to finish the four-game series with a win on Thursday with Ryan Gusto (0-2, 5.06 ERA) on the mound against the Rockies and Michael Lorenzen (3-9, 6.83 ERA).
