Former LSU baseball slugger earns major league promotion
· Yahoo Sports
Late Wednesday night ESPN's Jeff Passan broke the news that former LSU baseball third baseman Tommy White is being called up by the Athletics as the A's gear up for the second half of the MLB season. White will make his MLB debut Friday night against Washington and will face off against his former LSU teammate, Dylan Crews.
The A's took White in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft (40th overall), going over slot value to sign him to a $3 million deal. In 76 games across Double-A and Triple-A, White is batting .305/.353/.465 with 10 home runs and 64 RBI and is ranked as the Athletic's No. 7 prospect.

White left LSU as one of the most feared power hitters in NCAA history. He set an NCAA freshman record with 27 homers at NC State, and then hit 48 more across two seasons in Baton Rouge. His 75 career home runs is good for 8th in NCAA history and earned him the moniker Tommy Tanks.
White cemented himself forever in LSU lore in the Tigers' run to the national championship in 2023. He sent LSU to the championship series with a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning against Wake Forest. Two days later, White hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th inning against Florida to force extra innings in Game 1 of the championship series. Between the moonshot homers he would hit at both Alex Box Stadium and TD Ameritrade Park, his long, flowing hair, and the Tiger tattooed on his left forearm, White is one of the most beloved former Tigers in program history.
With White getting called up, that now makes four former Tigers from the 2023 national championship team to make it to The Show. White joins Paul Skenes (Pittsburgh), Dylan Crews (Washington) and Grant Taylor (Chicago White Sox) in the MLB.
White's MLB Debut will be Friday night at 8:40 P.M. CT at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. The A's went into the All-Star break on a nine-game losing streak and have fallen to fourth place in the AL West. At 41-55, the A's are eight games behind Texas in the AL West and are 6.5 games behind Minnesota for the American League's third and final wild card spot.
