‘Could Mess Around and Become the Face’ — Cowboys Legend Drops Bold Olivia Miles Take Spurning Caitlin Clark

WNBA star Caitlin Clark silenced the doubters with a scintillating performance in the Indiana Fever’s thrilling 110-107 win over the Seattle Storm on Friday evening. Clark tallied 45 points, 10 assists and 2 rebounds on 61.1% shooting from the floor and 60% from beyond the arc.

Clark has been the subject of widespread discourse about her status as the face of the WNBA, and her performances have declined in the last few games.

Dez Bryant Dismisses Caitlin Clark’s Status As Face of the WNBA

After her explosion against the Storm, former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin argued in a lengthy post on X that Clark was indeed the face of the league because of her entertaining style of play.

“Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA. She just had a 45 POINT 10 ASSISTS DOUBLE DOUBLE with 4 steals, 2 blocks and 2 rebounds. Shot 11/18 from the field and 6/10 from 3 point range in 29 minutes with a +16 +/-,” Griffin wrote.

“Other players have scored more points this year and in years pasts, but most of all, IT WAS EXCITING. That’s why the fans love watching her play. Her style is just different than what they are used to seeing. Caitlin Clark is UNDOUBTEDLY the most popular player in the WNBA.”

Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant quote-tweeted Griffin’s tweet, refuting the former Heisman Trophy winner’s take on Clark’s standing in the WNBA. He instead championed Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles as a possible candidate for the honor.

“I love CC as well, but she needs to be more consistent,” Bryant wrote. “You know and I know, as true competitors, we do not pat ourselves on the back whenever you go out and do what we are supposed to do… Everybody is talking about CC and A’ja the Face… but Olivia Miles could mess around and become the face of the WNBA… I’m just saying..”

Clark was one of the most celebrated college basketball prospects as she broke several long-standing records while playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was the 2024 WNBA No. 1 draft pick and arrived in the league with plenty of hype.

Clark has been in the headlines due to an incident during the Fever’s game against the Phoenix Mercury on June 24, when Alyssa Thomas stuck a fist in her throat and escaped punishment during the game. When the play was reviewed, Thomas was hit with a flagrant-2 foul, a $1,000 fine, and a one-game suspension.

The matter has escalated with some Republican lawmakers sending a letter of concern to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert over the treatment dished out to Clark by opponents and officials.

Clark’s explosion against the Storm made her the first player to tally 40 or more points and 10 or more assists in the same game, and she is now averaging 20.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 7.8 assists on 43.1% shooting from the field and 33.8% from beyond the arc for the Fever this season.
