Liverpool have decisions to make in the transfer market, and one of the more intriguing openings this summer concerns Ibrahim Mbaye. The Paris Saint-Germain youngster is expected to move on before the window closes, with interest building from both the Premier League and Bundesliga.

The situation is straightforward enough. PSG are loaded with attacking talent, more could yet arrive, and an 18-year-old wide player will look at that picture and see a blocked path. Mbaye’s contract runs until 2028, but length of deal means little when minutes are drying up and the queue in front of you keeps getting longer.

That is why this is worth watching from Liverpool’s point of view. There is no glamour in collecting talented youngsters for the sake of it. There has to be a role, a plan and a pathway. Mbaye looks like a player who could fit that brief if the recruitment team believe his ceiling is high enough.

PSG exit opens Liverpool transfer door

Fabrizio Romano provided an update saying: “Ibrahima Mbaye will leave PSG this summer with agent Jorge Mendes now in control of his future.” That changes the dynamic immediately. Once a player of Mbaye’s profile becomes available, clubs start asking whether the market is presenting value that would not usually exist.

Liverpool are clearly weighing up options out wide. Bradley Barcola remains a headline target for many, but football does not work on fantasy shopping lists. If one deal becomes too expensive or too complicated, sensible clubs move quickly and find another route.

Mbaye may well be that route. Young, right-sided, technically sharp and with room to grow, he offers the type of profile top clubs often regret ignoring when the price is still manageable.

Bradley Barcola pursuit shapes winger plans

Everything here comes back to squad building. If Barcola stays where he is, or if the fee required to prise him away climbs into absurd territory, Liverpool would be wise to think laterally. Paying huge money for one name can leave a squad short elsewhere. Splitting resources across two quality additions can sometimes make far more sense.

That is where Mbaye becomes especially interesting. He would not need to arrive as the finished article. He would need to arrive ready to compete, ready to develop and ready to give the squad another option on the right.

There is also the broader issue of balance. Liverpool cannot pour everything into one flank if other attacking needs remain unresolved. Cover through the middle still matters, and any summer strategy has to account for that.

Liverpool winger options demand smart spending

Mbaye feels like the sort of move clever clubs make before everyone else joins the chase. There is risk, of course. There always is with youth. Yet there is also logic. Liverpool need depth, quality and flexibility, and this market rarely rewards hesitation.

If the biggest deal proves out of reach, Ibrahim Mbaye could become one of the smarter Liverpool transfer moves of the summer, a signing made with clear eyes rather than noise.
