Puka Nacua Plans to Stay With Rams As He Enters Final Year of Rookie Contract

Puka Nacua knows where he wants to spend the long-term future of his career. The star wide receiver is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams and will become a free agent if he does not sign a new deal with the team before next March.

“That’s the plan,” Nacua said at Fanatics Fest when asked if he wants to stay with the Rams, per NFL reporter Arye Pulli on X.

Rams Have A Big Decision to Make About Nacua’s Contract

Nacua is currently playing on a four-year, $4.08 million rookie contract and is eligible for a contract extension with the Rams this offseason.

Nacua is projected to land a contract similar to the four-year, $168.6 million deal Jaxson Smith-Njigba signed with the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the offseason. Smith-Njigba’s contract makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history.

The Rams will need to make a decision on how to navigate a contract extension with Nacua. On the field, he is one of the best wide receivers in the league but Nacua has been involved in several controversies off the field in recent months.

In order for the Rams to commit to paying Nacua that much money, he needs to convince the franchise he can improve his behavior off the field.

“Off-the-field issues are jeopardizing Nacua’s early payday,” wrote Joel Corry of CBS Sports. “It’s conceivable that Nacua could get a new deal before the Rams open the 2026 regular season against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 10. The Rams will need to be comfortable Nacua has turned over a new leaf for that to happen.”

If the Rams do not feel comfortable committing to a multi-year with Nacua, Los Angeles could use a franchise tag to secure Nacua for the 2027 season for $31.5 million guaranteed.
