The Anaheim Ducks and Montreal Canadiens have made a relatively minor trade on Monday.
It was the Ducks who broke the news with an official announcement, revealing that they had acquired right winger Sean Farrell from the Montreal Canadiens, with the Canadiens getting left winger Sasha Pastujov in this deal.
Farrell is the only player with NHL experience in this deal but has spent the last 3 seasons in the American Hockey League as a member of the Laval Rocket. Original drafted by the Canadiens in the 4th round (124th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Farrell played 6 NHL games during the 2022-23 season where he had 1 goal.
This past season he had 17 goals and 36 assists for 53 points in 72 games with the Rocket.
Pastujov was drafted in the 3rd round (66th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft but has never played in the NHL since being selected by the Ducks. He did have a strong season last year with the AHL's San Diego Gulls however, recording 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 points in just 71 games.
Despite the fact that both men shoot left they play on opposite sides of the wing, and given that they had such similar seasons this seems to simply be a case of finding a better fit for both of the teams involved. Hopefully that means a better fit for both players as well, who now both get a chance to prove the team that drafted them that they gave up a little too early.
