Sangaré: Why Brentford was the best choice for me

Mamadou Sangaré has explained why he opted to join Brentford from Ligue 1 side Lens.
The Mali international midfielder has penned a five-year deal at the Bees, with a club option of a further year.
Sangaré has become the west Londoners' fourth first-team addition of the summer window following the arrivals of Jannik Schuster, Jaidon Anthony and Callum Wilson.

"They really went all out to sign me and, when a club does that, it’s a very good thing for me and for my future," said the 24-year-old, who was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year after helping his former side finish second behind Paris Saint-Germain.
"I spoke with the club’s management. I’m really pleased to have spoken to these people because they’ve really shown how much they value me.
"So, coming here was the best choice for me because I spoke to everyone at the club, and everyone wanted me, so I’m really very happy to be here."

On his impressive 2025/26 campaign, in which he also helped Lens win the Coupe de France for the first time in their history, Sangaré continued: "Last year was an incredible year.
"We had an incredible squad and an incredible coaching staff, which meant we had a brilliant season, and I’ll always be grateful to Lens. It’s a club that has really helped me, and I’m in good shape for this season. I hope they’ll do well, too."
So far, Sangaré's career has taken him from his home country of Mali to Austria, Belgium, and France.
The dynamic midfielder is ready to embrace the task of competing in the Premier League for the first time with the Bees, and believes his qualities will help Keith Andrews' side excel this term.
"I’m really excited to be playing in what is, without a doubt, the best league in the world," he added.
"This is a truly incredible challenge for me. I’m really excited and I have only one desire: to help the team as much as possible.
"I think I can bring my own style to this team. I’m a player who loves to defend, who loves having the ball and who loves controlling the game. I'm a good technical player, I love to enter duels and to recover the ball.
"So I think that, with my qualities, I could really help the team achieve the goals we’re going to set ourselves this season."
