There's no debate that this season has been a dud for the Toronto Blue Jays. After making the World Series a year ago, there was hope that not only would the Blue Jays get back to it, but possibly win it this time around. It's unfortunate that things have gone the way they have injury-wise, but this is simply something Toronto has dealt with for nearly the entire season.

It doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon, and at 54-61, there's now an argument that the Blue Jays shouldn't even want to win games.
I don't believe that's going to be the mindset for Toronto, as the organization just went out and made some impressive moves at the trade deadline.
However, one CBS writer believes it would be smarter for the Blue Jays to lose games and try to get better odds for a top pick in next year's draft.
“The Blue Jays and Mets currently have the 24th- and 25th-best records in baseball, respectively. That would give them 3.03% and 4.54% odds for the No. 1 pick, again respectively, using last year's lottery odds. There is more to it than just the No. 1 pick, too. The worse your record, the better your odds for the Nos. 2-6 picks as well (the remaining lottery picks),” Mike Axisa wrote.
The Blue Jays and New York Mets are similar in that both of them have been very disappointing this year.
The Blue Jays have much more of an excuse considering how bad we've seen the Mets be in recent years, but both teams could benefit from getting a really good prospect.
The problem here is that I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense for Toronto because it still has a chance to make the playoffs if things go as they could in the next few months. Hoping to hit on a prospect wouldn't strike me as some perfect plan rather than making the playoffs.
