First-year NFL head coach Jesse Minter continues to bring a different kind of energy to Baltimore Ravens. The team is preparing for the upcoming season by running reps at training camp.
He grabbed the spotlight during a team outing. Minter stepped in front of his players and delivered a seemingly impromptu rap performance. This happened as the team prepares for its second preseason game on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings

Minter rapped to Eminem’s hit song “Lose Yourself.” He looked comfortable in the moment while his players cheered him on. The scene offered a glimpse into the personality behind Baltimore’s new head coach.
Minter took over the Ravens this offseason. Baltimore hired him in January after he spent the previous two seasons as the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator. He also worked for the Ravens from 2017 through 2020.
The team defeated the Eagles 24-7 in its preseason opener last Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium. The team never trailed and controlled the game from start to finish.
And just like how the song goes, “this opportunity comes once in a lifetime.” No truer words can describe how Minter must feel at the helm.

He began his coaching career at Notre Dame in 2006. Minter then worked as a defensive intern before joining Cincinnati as a graduate assistant from 2007 to 2008.
A football coach’s son himself, Minter, the 43-year-old moved to Indiana State, coaching linebackers from 2009 to 2010. He became the program’s defensive coordinator in 2011 and held the role through 2012.
Georgia State came next. Minter served as defensive coordinator from 2013 through 2016. His coaching improved significantly during his tenure with the program. That was also when the Panthers earned their first bowl appearance in history in 2015.
The Ravens hired Minter in 2017. He spent three seasons as a defensive assistant before taking over as the team’s defensive backs coach in 2020. The Ohio native moved back to college football taking his experience to Vanderbilt. He spent only one season in Nashville before Michigan called him.
And the rest as they say is history. Minter is the fourth head coach in Baltimore franchise history.
