The former Browns star posted the announcement on social media on Friday.
“Today’s the day I’ve been avoiding for a while. Twelve-year-old me could never imagine this day, and 30-year-old me is wondering where all the time has gone,” he said. “I’ve known for some time now, but I’m finally ready to share that I’m done playing football.”

The Browns drafted Chubb in the 2nd round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played for Cleveland from 2018 to 2024.
Chubb rushed for 1,000 yards in four straight seasons from 2019 to 2022. His best year was in 2022 with a career-high 1,525 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.
He suffered a gruesome knee injury in 2023. Chubb tore both his MCL, meniscus, and ACL against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.
Chubb played for the Houston Texans in 2025.
“I wanted to end my career on a healthy note, along with a winning season, and I was able to do that,” he said on Instagram. “At the beginning of this journey, I made many promises to myself. The #1 promise I made was that I would always stay true to who I am and never forget the things that made me, me. That promise meant always being the hardest-working person, no matter where I was or what the circumstances were.”
The Cleveland Browns also congratulated Chubb on his retirement.
“Congrats to @NickChubb on a legendary career,” they wrote on X. “Forever a dawg.”
