The 23-year-old, who has been capped twice by Sweden, helped Hacken win last year’s Damallsvenskan — the top division of Swedish women’s football — and has scored 25 goals in 95 appearances for her club.
Jusu Bah, of Sierra Leonean descent, joined from Swedish rivals Umea in 2023 and has become an important part of Hacken’s side.
The left winger is contracted at Hacken through to December 2028, having signed a three-and-a-half year extension in September 2025.
Under new head coach Eva Olid, United’s incomings this summer have included defender Andrea Medina from Atletico Madrid and goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City. Gabby George, Hannah Blundell, Melvine Malard, Millie Turner, Lisa Naalsund and Leah Galton are among those to have departed.
A priority position for United
United’s recruitment this summer has not been great, to put it lightly. Medina is unquestionably a fantastic addition to the squad and a player fans should be excited about. But for a squad who came under plenty of scrutiny last season for its quantity and quality limitations, United’s lack of recruitment has been a source of concern and umbrage for fans, particularly given the departures of winger Malard, forward Galton and and midfielder Naalsund.
United’s need for a left-sided attacker, particularly following Malard’s departure, has been paramount. Malard was United’s joint top-scorer in the Women’s Super League (WSL) alongside Jess Park and Elisabeth Terland, with six apiece. United have lost all three of their pre-season friendlies. While the performances have arguably not warranted the results, United’s lack of clinical edge in the final third has been startling.
The hope is that Jusu Bah — with nearly a goal in every four appearances for Hacken — will help change that.
Despite being just 23, Bah has played almost 100 games for Hacken, with experience across both European cup competitions (Champions League and Europa League). While United have maintained that they are looking to their academy for the future, there is an understanding amongst coaching staff that such a paradigm shift will take time. To ensure United keep challenging the top-end of the table, an experienced and competent winger is crucial.
Bah seems to fit the bill, though the jump for attackers from the Swedish top-flight to the WSL is not always seamless, as United forward Ellen Wangerheim (who signed from Hammarby in January) has shown.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that on the day United’s director of football operations Ameesh Manek informed players that head coach Marc Skinner would be stepping down by mutual agreement, he told the squad that they were in the process of recruiting a winger and defender. Manek insisted that both players were “elite and experienced”, though didn’t divulge anymore information.
It’s been more than 20 days since, but United finally seem to be on the brink of fulfilling that promise.
