Texas A&M star among the highest paid quarterbacks in college football
· Yahoo Sports
In today's chaotic NIL-driven college football landscape, now including the new 5-for-5 rule, star players at key positions, especially quarterbacks, are earning NFL-level salaries, while the numbers for more than a dozen star signal callers have been released to the public, including Texas A&M starting QB Marcel Reed.

Entering his second full starting season, Reed threw for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while eight of his twelve picks came against top-35-ranked defenses, which was a significant issue that has been addressed this offseason thanks to his extensive work with private quarterbacks coach Josh Christensen, first-year OC Holmon Wiggins, and QB coach Joey Lynch.
While Reed is certainly one of the more polarizing quarterbacks on the national stage, his dual-threat skill set and elite speed have given plenty of opposing defensive coordinators headaches, and with one of the deepest wide receiver rotations in the country at his disposal, the expectation is that Reed won't just match his 2025 passing numbers, but cut down his interceptions, and finish with a high passing percentage.
So, how much is Marcel Reed making during what could be his final season in College Station? According to On3 insider Pete Nakos, the Tennessee native is making a cool $3 million in 2026.
"Marcel Reed led Texas A&M to a College Football Playoff berth in his first full season as the Aggies’ starting quarterback last season. Now he wants to take the next step and make the A&M offense more explosive. The Aggies will need it if they want to have consecutive 10-win seasons for the first time in more than 30 years. Jeff Christensen, Reed’s personal quarterback coach, told On3 that he’s had a “basically perfect” offseason. Sources said that Texas A&M and Reed brokered a deal to keep him in College Station that is worth $3 million for this season."
This is based on Nakos' discussions with Texas A&M sources, and Aggies Wire has also heard similar numbers floated since Reed re-signed with the program just weeks after the 2025 season. Compared to the other college football quarterbacks listed, new Miami QB Darien Mensah is reportedly making over $6 million, which leads all QBs.
