SEATTLE, Washington — Drake Maye did not mince words after Wednesday's game.
The New England Patriots quarterback took full responsibility for his mistakes against the Seattle Seahawks, including throwing three interceptions.

“We had the game under control. I thought we had a good plan to try to start chipping away and be patient, and yeah, lost patience and costed us,” Maye said. “I think just decisions that cost the game on my part and my end. (I have to) be better and realize that it’s a long season. At the same time, you can’t have those. We can’t have those, and it’s unacceptable. And I know that we have to get back to work. That wasn’t how I play football and how I want to represent my game and playing quarterback with the Patriots.”
One came on the team's final drive with less than a minute remaining and a chance to either win the game or at least tie it up and force overtime.
Maye attempted to connect with Mack Hollins, who emerged as the team's top receiver after A.J. Brown left the game early with an ankle injury, but the ball was up high, and it was Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe in coverage who managed to haul in the pass and get both feet down, sealing the victory for Seattle. The quarterback was asked if he intended to connect with Hollins on the play or just throw the ball away.
“It was something where we had a certain protection on, we were cutting, and was trying to get rid of it, and realized Mack was in the back there and didn’t put enough on to get it out, and it was just unacceptable,” Maye said. “We had a chance to send it to overtime at the worst, and the only thing you couldn’t do was turn the ball over.”
As for head coach Mike Vrabel's message to his quarterback, he kept it short and simple.
“It’s a long season,” Vrabel said. “Gotta hold your head up high. We have nothing but the utmost confidence in him.”
That's the good news for Maye and the Patriots, as they still have plenty of football left to play. And all they can do now is watch this game, take note of what went wrong and what worked, and get started on the preperation for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I’m trying to have ball placement," Maye added. "Ball placement’s key in this league, and trying to make sure that I put in the right spot. And I didn’t.”
