Despite the promising finish to the season as runners-up in the NFL during the 2025 NFL season, the Patriots’ offseason quickly devolved into a discussion about Vrabel’s alleged relationship with Russini. While franchises choose to move on from negative drama and news, the general public can’t help but speculate and add to the situation.

With the Patriots front and center in the NFL’s first game of the 2026 season, fans couldn’t help but pile onto the Patriots’ head coach, with one user posting, “NFL is back. The Russini Bowl begins.”

Another user couldn’t help but poke fun at the Patriots’ head coach, posting, “They need to drop a major Russini story at halftime.”

Ironically, Vrabel was interviewed after halftime regarding his team’s performance.

Other fans looked to harness the home-field advantage Seattle boasts. With Lumen Field engineered to be a boon to the fan experience and Seattle naming their fans the “12th Man,” one fan thought using the crowd to intimidate Vrabel could be useful, posting, “I think the Seahawks should start a ‘ Russini ‘ chant.”

Some fans resorted to memes to get their point across, with one user posting, “Dianna Russini at home” and attaching a picture of the viral Wolverine meme.

While the NFL clearly wants to avoid any conversation of the scandal, some fans are hopeful that the NBC announcers will fold.

On user posted, “I keep hoping Mike Tirico will throw is to Dianna Russini for a sideline report on how Mike Vrabel thinks AJ Brown is fitting in with the Patriots.”

Vrabel and the Patriots will hope that the spotlight on the incident fades. But if NFL fans have proved anything, it’s that they are quick to make a joke at another team’s expense.

While the Vrabel and Russini debacle might fade, it’s not going to be until later in the season, with the scandal fresh on everyone’s mind.
