Unatego/Franklin 10, Afton/Harpursville 0
Franklin senior Shannon Kingsbury made her Midstate Athletic Conference debut with six goals against visiting Afton/Harpursville in the Spartan Devils win Wednesday, Sept. 9, in Otego.
Harly Birdsall had a goal and four assists for U/F, which built a 6-0 halftime lead.
Kingsbury had a hat trick in the first six minutes, with two assists from Birdsall.
U/F outshot A/H, 35-1. A/H did have an advantage in corner kicks, 6-4.
Brooke Bensen had a goal and two assists for U/F, which also got a goal and an assist from Finly Birdsall, a goal from Jordan Parks, and assists from Jessalyn Taggart and Holly Smith.
Appalonia Bushaw made 18 saves for Afton/Harpursville (0-1, 0-1), which hosts Walton/Downsville for a MAC game Tuesday, Sept. 15
Daniella DeSilva made one save, while Lindsay Rinker did not make any saves during her stint in the net.
Unatego/Franklin (3-0, 1-0) plays in the Stamford Mayor's Cup championship game against South Kortright/Andes at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at Russ Archibald Field.
Richfield Springs/Owen D. Young 5, Madison 0
Abby Jones scored three goals and had an assist as the Eagles, the defending Section IV Class D champions, got their first win of the season in the opening round of the Waterville-Brothertown Optimist Tournament on Wednesday.
Aliyah Proctor scored twice for RS/ODY, which got assists from Madison Harris and Sydney Marshall.
Richfield Springs/Owen D. Young (1-1, 0-1) hosts Laurens for a Tri-Valley League game in Richfield Springs on Friday, Sept. 11.
BOYS SOCCER
Walton/Downsville 2, Sullivan West 0
Tyler Reed scored twice in a two-minute span in the first half as W/D won an opening round game of the Campbell Tournament on Wednesday in Downsville.
Reed netted his first score unassisted, dribbling into the box about 12 minutes into the game,
Two minutes later, he made a penalty kick.
Nolan Evans got the clean sheet as his defense did not allow any shots.
W/D had 14 shots and took 14 corner kicks as well.
Walton/Downsville (1-0, 0-0) will continue tournament play Friday and Saturday.
Greene 1, Sidney 0
Jacob Acevedo scored a second-half goal on an assist from Judd Dutcher to beat visiting Sidney in a Midstate Athletic Conference match Wednesday.
Greene outshot Sidney, 13-3, and had an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Greene (1-1, 1-0) hosts Cincinnatus for a non-league game Friday.
Liam Ives made 10 saves for Sidney (2-1, 0-1), which plays in the Oxford Tournament this weekend.
FIELD HOCKEY
Walton 3, Onteora 2
Brynlee Hunt scored the game winner with 11 minutes left in the third quarter as the Warriors beat Section IX Onteora in a non-league game Wednesday in Walton.
Hunt’s shot was set up by a penalty corner, with Rilynn Daye getting the assist for a 3-0 lead.
Karlee McClenon had two first half goals for the Warriors, with Alexa Scofield getting an assist.
Mackenzie Roach made five saves for Walton (1-2), which hosts Whitney Point on Thursday, Sept 10.
VOLLEYBALL
Walton 3, Sidney 0
Chloe Edwards had five kills and 12 assists as Walton won the Midstate Athletic Conference opener against visiting Sidney, 25-14, 27-25, 25-12, on Wednesday.
Jules Roy has six aces, five kills and four digs for the Warriors, which also got six kills and a block from Cami Barriger.
Sydnie VanValkenburgh had four aces and 10 kills for Sidney (0-1, 0-1), which hosts its tournament on Saturday.
Walton (1-0, 1-0) plays a MAC game at Unatego on Monday, Sept. 14.
