Lamar Jackson looks like an MVP again with new coordinator

His combination of explosive running ability, play-action passing, and big-play potential was immediately on display against the Indianapolis Colts.

Jackson immediately shows off his elite running ability

Jackson wasted no time making his presence felt.

The two-time MVP ripped off a 16-yard scramble, showing the burst and open-field ability that has made him one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in NFL history.

Then came the highlight.

Jackson took off on another designed run and raced five yards into the end zone for a touchdown, giving Baltimore its first score of the season. The play came just one snap after Jackson connected with Zay Flowers for a massive 49-yard gain, giving the Ravens a touchdown drive that needed only three plays.

Jackson wasn’t finished there. Baltimore’s new offense continued moving the ball effectively, with Jackson making plays both with his arm and legs.

Declan Doyle’s offense already looks dangerous

The early performance is particularly encouraging because this is Jackson’s first season working with Doyle as his offensive coordinator.

The Ravens hired the 30-year-old Doyle to install a completely new offense, and Jackson spent the offseason learning the system while repeatedly expressing excitement about what was coming. Baltimore’s coaching staff also believes Jackson is in excellent physical condition after injuries limited him during the 2025 season.

There is also an intriguing historical connection. Jackson won the MVP award in his first season with Greg Roman in 2019 and again in his first season with Todd Monken in 2023. Now he is attempting to do it again with a third offensive coordinator.

Through the opening portion of Sunday’s game, Jackson has already shown the explosiveness that was missing at times last season.

If this is what Lamar Jackson looks like in Declan Doyle’s offense when the games actually count, the NFL may have a major MVP problem on its hands.
